Questions and answers

Will the under-sink water filter fit any sink?

In Europe, the connections on the angle valve are largely standardised. Therefore, experience has shown that the Element drinking water filter fits under the sink in over 90% of all installation situations without any problems. Of course, it may be that your architecture at home or in the company is slightly different, but that is not a problem at all.

Good to know: We have ensured easy installation under the sink and have conceptualized various connection sets with which you can easily install the filter with the DVWG armored hose.

For those interested: The thread on the corner valve under the sink usually has a 3/8 inch pipe thread and must be adapted to our housing with an adapter, which requires a 1/2 inch connection. 

What does the water filter under the sink do? 

Drinking water filters and shower filters from Alb Filter offer different filter cartridges for different purposes. In this way, numerous pollutants, heavy metals, pharmaceutical residues, but also annoying odors and tastes can be removed from the tap water.

Depending on the cartridge selected, you can also reliably filter traces of microplastics or the smallest bacteria and germs with our water filter on the undersink.

Do minerals remain in drinking water after filtering?

Yes, dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain in the water.

How much lime does the Active Plus cartridge filter?

We would like to point out that decalcification is not the main focus of our filters. We concentrate primarily on effective pollutant filtration.

The Active Plus cartridge works according to 2 principles:
"Double" water softening through classic ion exchange and structural change of lime compounds. (Limescale adheres less to surfaces).

Note: Limescale is not removed 100%, but reduced depending on the water hardness.

Decalcification by the Active Plus+ cartridge is directly related to water hardness. The following principles apply:

1. The higher the water hardness level (>= 18 °dH), the more challenging it is for the cartridge to perform a softening effectively. Accordingly, the descaling capacity of the cartridge is also exhausted more quickly.
2. The faster the water flow (> 2 l/min), the more effective the transformation of calcite into another, less adherent crystal structure (see method 3 at:

If you discover "white dust" in your kettle , this is due to the calcite crystals that are still present. These always form when water evaporates, but have a less adherent structure.

Can Alb filters also filter out drug residues, hormones and pesticides?

Many of the most frequently discussed residues of pharmaceuticals and pesticides were tested in a comprehensive study and were no longer detectable in filtered water.

Do I have to take care of pure drinking water myself?

In our knowledge section we report in detail about the existing pollutants in drinking water. Here the impression suggests itself that tap water is rather not suitable for human consumption. But that would be an exaggeration. However, the up to 56 monitored ingredients, which are controlled by waterworks, contrast with up to 100,000 pollutants and contaminants, which can enter the environment through industry and traffic, but also as natural occurrences. If you want to protect yourself and your family from the multitude of substances, you should use appropriate drinking and shower water filters.

Is a drinking water and shower filter useful?

Yes, because drinking water and shower filters can be easily installed at the point of use and, in contrast to house filter systems, promise an immediate solution - for example in the case of Legionella infestation. This is particularly interesting for tenants, because they do not have to consult with their landlord, but can become active themselves. The costs are very manageable. And the high-quality drinking water and shower filters from Alb Filter offer a sustainable solution: In addition to the metal housings, you will find a large selection of replacement cartridges, suitable for the desired application. All filters are compatible with all cartridges, a shower filter can become a drinking water filter.

Is mineral water the better alternative?

Although clean and monitored drinking water comes straight from the tap in Germany, many consumers prefer bottled mineral water. But contrary to popular belief that mineral water is the safer and healthier alternative, this can be clearly denied here.

Tap water in Germany is subject to the Drinking Water Ordinance and is constantly checked for pollutants by water suppliers and independent institutes. It is obtained to 70 percent from groundwater sources and approx. 30 percent from surface water.

In contrast, natural mineral water is defined by the fact that it is extracted from greater depths of underground water deposits and has a constant composition of mineral content. It is subject to the Mineral and Table Water Ordinance and must be officially recognised. However, in contrast to the drinking water ordinance, this ordinance has fewer limit values. Tap water is therefore subject to much stricter controls. In terms of taste, still mineral waters are virtually indistinguishable from tap water; only carbonated mineral water tastes more intense because it has more minerals dissolved in it. The taste is hardly decisive, but the massive marketing of the suppliers suggests greater purity and healthier enjoyment.

Apart from the lower controls and thus potential health disadvantages, the CO2 footprint of mineral water in particular is significantly more negative than that of tap water. The main factors for the poor eco-balance are bottling and transport of the mineral water. Admittedly, there are differences depending on packaging and transport route. But imported bottled water in particular causes up to 1,000 times more environmental pollution than tap water. Nevertheless, imports continue unabated: in 2014, 1,142.8 million litres of mineral water were imported into Germany. According to the 2014 international Greendex study by the National Geographic Society, Germans consumed 68% of their water from bottles, making them world champions.

The production of the bottles, their cleaning, filling and disposal further worsens the ecological balance. So does the customer's decision whether to go shopping by car, bike or on foot.

In short: For a Berlin mineral water drinker, this results in an average of 210 g of CO2 equivalent per liter of bottled water. Tap water produces 0.35g. If all Berliners decided today to drink only tap water, almost 100,000 tons of CO2 could be saved per year.

Despite this, a large proportion of the German population prefers bought and bottled water. Why is that? For one thing, we love sparkling water, which we could, however, also produce with a drinking water bubbler. On the other - and this is much worse - the population is increasingly losing confidence in the quality of tap water, usually without knowing that it is actually healthier and cheaper than bottled water.

Plastic bottles will eventually be plastic garbage.

Whereas mineral water used to be sold in the typical deposit glass bottles of mineral springs, today it is mostly plastic bottles, at best returnable PET bottles, but far too often also in non-returnable bottles, which are shredded on return. Plastic bottles are a big problem for the environment and our health. Not only the poor eco-balance caused by packaging material and transport has an impact on our environment, but also the disposal and associated pollution. Therefore, please refrain from drinking water and soft drinks in plastic bottles.

So if tap water brings health risks under certain aspects and if bottled mineral water is controlled even worse, water for drinking and showering should be freed from harmful substances on one's own responsibility. The installation of a high-quality water filter at the point of use (i.e. no table can filter with its susceptibility to germs) will therefore become increasingly important for private households.
