Alb Filter®

DUO

Water filter for your tap - by Alb Filter

Tap filter for clean drinking water - without residues

Our water filter basically fits on any commercially available water tap. The connection of the Duo drinking water filter - with switch-over function - fits 85% of all taps. If not, we will be happy to supply the appropriate adapter for your thread.

This is what the filter does: Depending on the cartridge you choose, the Duo tap filter ensures clean drinking water from the tap - free of bad tastes and odours, reduces heavy metals, pesticides and pharmaceutical residues. The Nano cartridge filters e.g. microplastics, bacteria and germs - even micro germs like Legionella have.

Why is the tap filter called "Duo"?

Duo simply means two. And just as a dynamic duo is spoken of figuratively, the Duo tap filter has two functions:

  • When the Duo is active, you use it to enjoy your drinking water purified or to wash your fruit and vegetables and other food.
  • When the Duo is deactivated, you can wash your dishes or hands in the sink, because unfiltered water is also sufficient for this.

Questions and answers

How do I install the Duo drinking water filter on my tap?

Installing the Duo tap filter is as easy as can be: in about 85% of cases, you already have an M22 or M24 threaded connection. Both connection variants are already included in the scope of delivery - at no extra charge.

Note: If it still doesn't fit, we have other adapters in stock for you . Our adapter exchange service is included with the purchase of your water filter. Therefore, it is best to determine the thread size in our thread guide before buying your water filter.

Why should I filter the water from my tap?

Why filter water? Doesn't the water already run filtered into the tap? It is true that tap water in Germany is strictly controlled, but in practice the quality often shows serious deficiencies. This is partly due to the fact that many substance concentrations such as heavy metal or drug residues, hormones, microplastics and pesticides are neither listed nor taken into account by the German Drinking Water Ordinance.

How much lime does the Active Plus cartridge filter?

We would like to point out that decalcification is in principle not the focus of our filters. We concentrate primarily on effective pollutant filtration. The Active Plus cartridge works according to two principles:
"Double" water softening through classic ion exchange and structural change of lime compounds. (Limescale adheres less to surfaces). Note: Limescale is not removed 100%, but is reduced depending on the water hardness.

Details:
Decalcification by the Active Plus+ cartridge is directly related to water hardness. The principles apply:

  • The higher the degree of hardness of the water (>= 18 °dH), the more challenging it is for the cartridge to carry out softening effectively. Accordingly, the descaling capacity of the cartridge is also exhausted more quickly.
  • The faster the water flow (> 2 l/min), the more effective the transformation of calcite into another, less adherent crystal structure (cf. method 3 under: Active Plus+ cartridge).

If you discover "white dust" in your kettle, it is due to the lime crystals that are still present. These always form when water evaporates, but have a less adherent structure.

Limescale reduction compared to table can filters

The difference to table pot filters is the contact time with the water and the total amount that can be filtered. To really compare the filters, you would have to install the Brita filter under the sink. Since the contact time of table pot filters with the ion exchanger granulate is significantly higher, you will achieve a better descaling effect. In order to be able to compare the Active Plus+ with a table jug filter, you have to reduce the water flow considerably in order to achieve a comparable result as with a table jug filter.

How often do the tap filter cartridges need to be changed?

The cartridges consist of a specially sintered core of activated carbon (Active) or Bioton, which loses its filter performance over time. We recommend changing the cart ridge after a maximum of 4 or 6 months - depending on the usage and the cartridge used.

Why does an activated carbon filter lose its filter performance? Here you can read how an activated carbon filter works.

Can I also connect the drinking water filter to a boiler?

When using our Alb Filter Duo for the water tap in connection with pressureless boilers, please note that due to the high fineness of the cartridge, a pressure is built up in front of it (approximately at the level of the mains pressure), which is reduced only slowly. Under certain circumstances, this can damage the non-pressure-resistant boiler.

However, there are also pressure-resistant boilers for which the above restrictions do not apply. You can recognise these, for example, by the type plate " max. operating pressure ... ". This must be at least 4 bar. However, these types of boilers are usually somewhat more expensive to buy than the non-pressurised types.

As an alternative, you can also use our Alb drinking water filters for the undersink, which are approved for use in pressureless systems.

How do I know what thread my faucet has?

Most kitchen sinks have an M22 or M24 threaded tap. Included with the Alb Filter Duo housing is a stainless steel adapter for taps with M24 thread. Should it still not fit, Alb Filter offers further adapters in its shop. In order to make sure in advance whether an adapter is required, we advise you to use the thread wizard.

When should I filter the water and when not?

Whenever you want to drink water, prepare drinks, clean or prepare food with it, you should use filtered water. Untreated water is also sufficient for rinsing or washing hands.
