Alb Active water filter cartridge made of biodegradable bioplastic against harmful substances in drinking water

Active

Filter cartridge for the treatment of drinking water

The Active filter cartridge made of sintered activated carbon adsorbs unpleasant odors and bland taste impairments such as chlorine and chlorine degradation products. It also reduces organic pollutants, various drug residues, light hydrocarbons, solvents, pesticides, flavors and fine particles (rust, lime flakes, sand). It fits into any Alb filter housing and is used for drinking water treatment in the home kitchen and when camping.

Range of services

Removal of bad taste and odors

High-quality Alb Filter coconut block activated carbon adsorbs unpleasant odors (chlorine, CHCs, CFCs, etc.) and impairs the taste of drinking water.

Reduction of pesticides and pharmaceutical residues

Organic compounds such as pesticide residues, herbicides, insecticides, drug residues, hormones and hormone-like substances can be reduced.

Filtration of microplastics

The ultra-fine structure of the sintered activated carbon reliably retains microscopically small plastic particles.

Reduction of heavy metals

The adsorbing effect of activated carbon binds heavy metals such as lead and copper in drinking water.

Cartridge change

Change interval 4 months - depending on the quality of the input water.

Quality made in Germany

High-quality production paired with Swabian ingenuity results in made in Germany.

How does water filtration with activated carbon work?

Adsorptive and catalytic

The strong surface forces (adhesion) of the activated carbon remove unwanted turbidity and odors such as chlorine as well as organic compounds and pollutants from the water. These include pharmaceutical residues, hormones, pesticides/pesticides, perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) and many more. Important minerals remain in the water.

The enormous surface area of the filter medium is decisive for the filter performance. For comparison: the inner surface area of four grams of activated carbon is roughly the size of a soccer pitch. With a weight of just under 80g (pure filter material), the Active filter cartridge from Alb Filter achieves an extra high filter performance.

Mechanical

The sintered activated carbon (pressed activated carbon block) has a pore size of just 10µm (0.01 mm). This corresponds to about one sixth of the thickness of a human hair. This means that even very small particles are effectively retained by the fine structure. The cartridge thus offers mechanical protection against microplastics, sand, rust and other particles.

Monobloc vs. poured activated carbon

Blocking charcoal under the magnifying glass. Fine structures

Normal bulk activated carbon, which is often found in comparable water filters, does not provide sufficient protection against pollutants, germs and bacteria. In order to bind the pollutants, the water needs direct contact with the filter medium. With shaken activated carbon, the water can make its way through the filter medium without coming into contact with the activated carbon. The water without contact is released to the consumer unfiltered.

For this reason, we use a pressed activated carbon monoblock with a fineness of 10 µm for Alb filters. Due to the very high porosity, the water (and the pollutants it contains) cannot flow through the filter without contact, resulting in a very high filter performance. For example, lead, copper, drug residues or hormone-like substances are removed from the water. In addition, the fine channels filter solids such as microplastics, sand and rust.

Guidebook: Contamination risk with activated carbon?

We compare countertop filters and professional water treatment systems such as Under-sink or tap filters. In our Guidebook on countertop filters and table-top pitcher filters, you can find out why table-top pitcher filters are only of limited use for water purification and what you need to bear in mind when using them. For example, there is an increased risk of contamination if they are used incorrectly.
