Guidebook Guidebook
This allows you to determine the thread of your aerator in just 4 steps.
Depending on the type of tap fitting, an adapter may be required to install the Alb Filter Duo. This Guidebook will help you to determine the thread of your aerator and the correct adapter for your fitting.

Step 1:
Removing the aerator / aerator regulator
Most taps have a jet regulator, also known as an aerator. To determine the thread of the aerator, you need to unscrew it by turning it to the left (counterclockwise). Many aerators can be unscrewed by hand, but some require a suitable tool such as an aerator wrench or a coin.
IMPORTANT: Do not use these instructions to determine the thread of your tap (only indirectly), but that of your aerator, as this value is required to determine a corresponding adapter.

Step 2:
Determine the thread type of the aerator
Which thread can you recognize on your aerator?
External thread
It is an external thread if the teeth,
as in this illustration, point outwards.
If you have determined an external thread, please only note the versions in magenta in the following steps.
Internal thread
An internal thread is when the teeth point inwards.
If you have determined an internal thread, please only note the versions in blue in the following steps.

Step 3:
Determine the thread size of the aerator
Male thread (AG)
Determine with calipers
Accuracy: high - very high
The thread is measured at the outer edge of the serration. To do this, position the calliper gauge as shown in the following illustration and read off the value.

Male thread (AG)
Determine with ruler
Accuracy: Medium
Place the zero value of the ruler on the outer edge of the serration. Now read off the mm value on the opposite side of the thread.
NOTE: Due to the external thread, it is easier to determine an AG with the ruler than an IG.

Female thread (IG)
Determine with calipers
Accuracy: high - very high
Place the zero value of the ruler on the inside edge of the serration. Now read the mm value on the opposite side of the thread.

Female thread (IG)
Determine with ruler
Accuracy: Medium
Place the zero value of the ruler on the inside edge of the serration. Now read the mm value on the opposite side of the thread.

Alternative: Operating instructions
If operating instructions for the fitting are available, the exact thread sizes can often be found in these.

Step 4:
Compare determined value with table
Table External thread (AG)
Find the value you measured on the external thread of the aerator and compare it with the table. In the right-hand column, you will find the name of the adapter required to attach the Alb Filter Duo to your fitting.

Thread guide as video:
In our Guidebook on the subject of threads and adapters, Patrick uses practical examples to explain when you need an adapter, why there are different adapters and how to correctly determine a thread.
Feingewinde <> Grobgewinde
Couldn't find your thread? Then your thread may be a coarse thread (pipe thread), which is not very common.
In contrast to a fine thread, the individual spirals of a pipe thread are further apart and are cut deeper. You can measure how far apart the spirals (turns) are. At a distance of approx. 1 mm we are dealing with a fine thread, at larger distances it could be a pipe thread.
Dimensions of pipe or coarse threads:
3/8inch external thread (thread diameter: 16.7 mm)
1/2 inch external thread (thread diameter: 21.0 mm)
3/8 inch female thread (thread diameter: 15.3 mm)
Individual help!
We will be happy to help you determine the correct thread for your aerator.
Please take a photo of your aerator / aerator with a measuring tape, ruler or caliper attached. Proceed as follows:
- Place the unscrewed aerator on an even surface and photograph it from an angle. The side with the thread must be on top.
- Hold a tape measure (preferably a calliper gauge), or alternatively a folding rule, diagonally across the thread of the aerator. Here it is important that we can estimate how wide the diameter is.
- Finally, we need a picture of your tap so that we can better assess the connection situation (is the shower head perhaps unsuitable?)
Please send us the pictures by e-mail to: [email protected]

Free adapter exchange
We recommend that you check the thread of your tap before purchasing the Alb Filter Duo.
If the M24 adapter included in the scope of delivery does not fit your tap, we will be happy to replace it. Please contact us so that we can find the right adapter for you.
For customers in Germany, we will cover the shipping costs for the first replacement adapter. The customer is responsible for returning the adapter that is not required. Simply send us an e-mail with the details of the required adapter and your order number.
