Studies by Krutous and Rysev, Khadartsev3 attribute high adsorptive, catalytic and bactericidal activity to shungite.

In anti-ageing research, shungite is sometimes referred to as an effective "fountain of youth". However, very little research has been done into the hollow-spherical fullerene, but it is said to have a positive effect on the skin's ageing process.
