Alb Filter - At a glance (History)

Although the idea of the Alb Filter was only born in 2016, we can look back on a long history of experience in the field of water filters. We have been working in this complex field since 2001.

2022

  • Two patents filed in 2021 for the camping sector were granted.
  • The state-funded expansion of our warehouse with production and office is entering the final planning phase. The building application has been submitted.
  • Cooperation with Heidelberg research institute. A new high-end cartridge is in the final test phase. Release will be Q2 2023.
  • Final test phase of a new accessory for motorhomes that is not available on the market. The official announcement will take place in 2023.
  • We were also represented at the Caravan Salon 2022 trade fair in Düsseldorf this year. The stand size has doubled compared to the previous year.

2021

  • The hard work and long wait has paid off: Blaufaktor GmbH receives the "Spitze auf dem Land" funding from the EU and L-Bank. The planned expansion in the "Inkom" industrial area near Rottweil is subsidized by 20%.
  • This year we were once again on site at the Caravan Salon 2021 in Düsseldorf. A complete success with many interesting discussions.
  • Two new patents have been filed for a camping accessory.

2020

  • The Active Plus+ was revised and released in October. Due to the low Flow rate, the mixture had to be redefined. The Active Plus+ is now even able to reduce limescale and soften water.
  • Alb Filter and Blaufaktor GmbH & Co. KG is among the top 20 winners of the Baden-Württemberg State Prize 2020.
  • A pre-filter unit called "Protect" is added as a supplementary module to the Alb Filter Element. This is designed to protect subsequent cartridges with a sintered pre-filter pad.
  • The great demand for covering a wide range of filters was answered with the release of the Alb Filter Fusion. The Fusion is making a name for itself in the camping industry in particular.

2019

  • In future, the housings and caps of selected filter cartridges will be injection molded from bioplastics. This will further reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics - an important step towards a future with less plastic waste.
  • Blaufaktor GmbH & Co. KG receives the innovation award for the development of an injection mold in which the caps and housings of the filter media can be produced in bioplastics
  • Alb Filter Duo comes onto the market.
  • Alb Filter cooperates with the environmental protection organization One Earth - One Ocean e.V., which removes plastic waste from waters worldwide. For every Alb eco cartridge sold, Alb Filter donates a percentage to the environmental organization.

2018

  • With the Alb Filter eco cartridge, the company is launching the first filter cartridge on the market this fall whose caps are made from biopolymers. These are biodegradable in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14855 and EN 13432.
  • Alb Filter receives project-related funding from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs for the use of degradable bioplastics in the series production of its product portfolio.
  • Connection kits for motorhomes and caravans are available.

2017

  • In collaboration with a renowned filter manufacturer, the Alb Filter Active and Active Plus+ filter cartridge solution was developed and perfected from a sintered coconut-based activated carbon block. The inner surface of the activated carbon is roughly the size of a soccer pitch and therefore has a very large surface area to retain and bind pollutants, germs and bacteria.
  • With the help of a sales partner, the first large order is placed for the market launch in Egypt.

2016

  • Planning and development of the first water filter developed entirely in Germany. The idea behind it was to attach a filter directly to the end points of the taps.
  • Production of the prototype filter housing in the Swabian Alb.
  • Market launch of today's Alb filter under a different name. Initially with a filter insert for the shower and drinking water.

2015

  • Expansion of the business area to include osmosis systems, hoses and inline filters. The current range includes around 300 different filters, housings and small parts.

2014

  • Start of sales of water filter systems for wells and cistern applications.

2001 - 2013

  • Driven by the poor water quality in their student hall of residence, the three founders came up with the idea of working on drinking water treatment and water filters while they were still at university. Tobias Müller had also been in contact with water filtration technology since 2001, when he studied physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). They started their new company under the name BWF.
