Alb Filter - A technology company from the Swabian Alb
We, Benjamin Maywald, Patrick Leichtenstern and Tobias Müller - two computer scientists and a graduate engineer from southwest Germany - are the founders and owners of the drinking water filter provider Blaufaktor GmbH & Co. KG and the Alb Filter brand.
The idea of dealing with drinking water treatment and water filters was already maturing during our studies. Driven by the poor water quality in our shared student hall of residence, we realized how important clean and hygienic drinking water is in everyday life. Our own experience turned into a vision.

Clean drinking water is an increasingly important issue for the world's population in times of climate change and population growth; this applies not only to developing and emerging countries, but also to industrialized nations. According to a recent UN environmental report, the quality of fresh water has deteriorated in most regions since 1990. Dangerous substances such as pharmaceutical residues, hormones, pesticide and antibiotic residues as well as other toxic substances are spread via contaminated drinking water. These are often not even captured or filtered out by sewage treatment plants and public drinking water treatment systems. This is why effective and affordable wastewater treatment technologies need to reach many more people around the world.
From the development of our first Alb filter in 2013 to the present day, the concept has been constantly improved and the range of applications for our filters has been continuously expanded. Installed in front of the tap or shower hose, they provide highly efficient and chemical-free protection against pollutant residues and pathogens, turbidity and taste.
Today, the Alb filter is a real all-rounder. Thanks to the modular design of our various cartridges, we can cater to the different needs and applications of our customers - whether for personal hygiene or drinking water, whether at home or on the go - Alb filters are a safe companion everywhere.
Sustainability and resource conservation
However, it is not only the quality of drinking water that is important to us. Alb Filter's philosophy also includes offering an attractive alternative to drinking water in (plastic) bottles in order to reduce the amount of plastic waste.
We also want to run our company in a resource-conserving and sustainable way. That is why we manufacture our filter housings from high-quality, durable stainless steel and a food-safe metal alloy. To reduce the amount of plastic waste, we use bioplastics made from lignin.
With the aim of guaranteeing the best possible quality and keeping delivery routes as short as possible, we work with experienced partners from the region in development and production. Hand in hand with CNC turning shops, metal finishing manufacturers, laser engraving technicians and plastics technicians. We manufacture our Alb filters for Germany and the whole world in the Swabian Alb.
